“Dear Mom, Don't Just Take My Picture With Santa.”
Don't just take my picture sitting beside Santa.
Take the picture when I'm whispering my Christmas wish.
Take the picture when I'm holding his hand.
Take the picture when I look at him like he's the most important person in the world.
Take the picture when I discover my name on the Nice List.
Take the picture when I open the gift he chose just for me.
Because someday I won't believe anymore.
And you'll wish you could remember exactly what it looked like when I did.
Years from now, you may not remember exactly what your child was wearing that Christmas.
But when you look at a photograph, you might remember the way their hair curled around their face.
The little gap between their teeth.
The way they held onto Santa's hand.
The expression they made when Santa knew their name.
The way they looked up at him with complete wonder.
Those details are what photographs give back to us.
A photograph doesn't simply remind us of what happened.
It reminds us of how it felt.
A Santa session should be about more than sitting beside Santa and smiling at a camera.
It should be about giving children an experience worth remembering.
It's the anticipation.
The wonder.
The whispered Christmas wishes.
Finding their name on Santa's Nice List.
Discovering a special gift waiting just for them.
Listening to stories.
Laughing.
Cuddling.
Believing.
And sometimes, simply watching a child look at Santa with that unmistakable expression of wonder.
Those are the moments we want to preserve.
Because years from now, the photograph won't just show you what your child looked like.
It will take you back to who they were.
And someday, when those little people aren't little anymore, those photographs will become a way back.
Back to the Christmas when they still believed.
Back to the way they looked at you.
Back to the magic.
Because childhood doesn't last forever.
But the photographs we create can.
